About State Programs

New York State Solar, acting in the role of educating and advocating the local community on the various solar options available to New Yorkers, encourage everyone interested to first learn about one of the countries greatest state sponsored solar programs.

NY-Sun is a portfolio program of the Clean Energy Fund (CEF) , a core component of Governor Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) designed to achieve a clean, resilient and affordable energy system for the State.

The Clean Energy Fund (CEF) is one of the REV strategies designed to deliver on New York State’s commitment to reduce ratepayer collections, drive economic development and accelerate the use of clean energy and energy innovation.

The role of the NY-Sun program is to provide long-term certainty to the NY solar market and continue to help lower the costs and barriers of entry for homeowners and businesses transitioning to solar.

“REV includes groundbreaking regulatory reform to integrate clean energy into the core of New York State’s energy system; programmatic redesign to complement and unlock private investment in clean energy; and leading by example through innovative energy solutions in the State’s own facilities and operations. “

New York’s electric grid of the past century was built to meet the peak electric demand that only occurs just a few days each year. As a result the current centralized utility system is both energy and financially inefficient.

Approximately two-thirds of the fuel burned to generate electricity is lost in the generation and delivery process. Or, to put it another way, our electric power system operates at approximately 33 percent efficiency.

Distributed generation/decentralized energy systems like small hydro, biogas, solar power, wind and geothermal, increasingly play an important role in the reshaping of the 21st century power grid transformation.
